A Greek Amphitheatre on the Mountain of Montjuïc
Located on the mountain of Montjuïc, the Teatre Grec was built in the style of a Greek amphitheatre for the Barcelona Universal Exhibition of 1929.
The Grec fell in to disuse after the Spanish Civil War until the 1950s when it began to be used again sporadically.
In 1976, the Ajuntament de Barcelona took over management of the theatre and since then the amphitheatre has been the main venue for the Festival Grec, which is held every July
The Festival Grec is now one of Barcelona’s most popular summer festivals and the full programme of theatre, music, dance and circus is normally announced in May.
