Perfectly located on corner of Gran Via and Carrer de Roger de Llúria, Hotel El Palace was formerly the Barcelona Ritz and remains one of the classiest establishments in the city.
In fact, it is one of the few Barcelona hotels with GL or Gran Luxe added to its name, so it’s officially a Hotel of Great Luxury.
Being in the Dreta de l’Eixample neighbourhood, El Palace is well-situated for Barcelona City Centre with classy Passeig de Gràcia just a stone’s throw away, La Rambla is a short walk down the hill and Arc de Triomf about the same distance in the opposite direction.
Guests at El Palace will obviously be likely to take taxis but Urquinaona metro station, which is on both the Red L1 line and Yellow L4 line, is very close and the Passeig de Gràcia railway station, which has a direct connection to Barcelona Airport amongst many other destinations, is also within walking distance.
Hotel El Palace opened in 1919 and has an impressive neoclassical facade but its full luxury only becomes evident once you are inside.
The 125 elegant rooms are traditionally furnished in a classical style and include air-conditioning, satellite TV, a desk, a minibar and a fully-equipped private bathroom.
For serious foodies, the hotel boasts the marvellous 1-star Michellin Caelis restaurant and Restaurant 19/Nineteen, located in the entrance, as well as the Bluesman cocktail bar.
The Palace also offers a Maia-style spa plus a fitness centre, a business centre and an outdoor swimming pool on the roof.
An exciting novelty this year is that Hotel El Palace’s Bluesman Cocktail Bar is one of the small scale venues for the Barcelona International Jazz Festival so between October and December guests will be treated to some of the coolest sounds around.
I live very close to El Palace so really like the area and, to be perfectly honest, if I were to stay in any hotel in Barcelona for sheer class, El Palace would probably be my first choice.
